Cataclysm Classic Engineering Leveling Guide 1-525 (2024)

This Cataclysm Classic Engineering leveling guide will show you the fastest and easiest way to level your Engineering skill up from 1 to 525 in Cataclysm Classic.

I recommend trying Zygor's 1-85 Leveling Guide if you are still leveling your character or you just started a new alt. The guide will help you to reach level 85 a lot faster.

Approximate materials required

This is the list of the approximate materials required to level Engineering up to 525.

Engineering trainers

Leveling Cataclysm Engineering

Buy a Blacksmith Hammer from a Blacksmithing or Engineering supply vendor, they are usually near your trainer. (or any general/trade goods vendor)

Gnome Engineering skill racial bonus

Gnome characters have +15 Engineering skill because of their passive Engineering Specialization. An extra 15 Engineering skill means recipes stay orange 15 points longer, so you can save a lot of gold by doing lower level recipes for 15 more points.

1 - 55

• 1 - 35
  60x Rough Blasting Powder - 60 Rough Stone

  You might even reach 40 with this recipe. You will need the 60 Rough Blasting Powder later, so keep these.

• 35 - 55
  30x Handful of Copper Bolts - 30 Copper Bar

  You will need around 30 of these later.

Journeyman Engineering

Visit your trainer and learn Journeyman Engineering. (Requires level 10)

55 - 75

• 55 - 56
  1x Arclight Spanner - 6 Copper Bar

  You will use this to craft engineering recipes, so keep it.

  You probably won't be exactly at 56. This is just an estimated number.

• 56 - 75
  30x Rough Copper Bomb - 30 Handful of Copper Bolts, 60 Rough Blasting Powder

75 - 125

• 75 - 90
  40x Coarse Blasting Powder - 40 Coarse Stone

  Keep 20 of these.

• 90 - 100
  20x Coarse Dynamite - 20 Coarse Blasting Powder, 20 Linen Cloth

• 100 - 113
  13x Clockwork Box - 39x Bronze Bar

• 113 - 125
  Right click on the Clockwork Box you just made. These give skill points up to 125.

Expert Engineering

Visit your trainer and learn Expert Engineering. (Requires level 20)

125 - 200

• 125 - 150

  Make sure that you start making the Heavy Blasting Powder first.

  • 30x Heavy Blasting Powder - 30 Heavy Stone
  • 15x Whirring Bronze Gizmo - 30 Bronze Bar, 15 Wool Cloth

  You will need 30 Heavy Blasting Powder and 15 Whirring Bronze Gizmo later, so make these now and you should reach 150 skill points.

• 150 - 160
  15x Bronze Framework - 30 Bronze Bar, 15 Medium Leather, 15 Wool Cloth

  Keep these too.

  By making them now, you might get a lot further - probably towards 160, then stop making these and only make more when you'll need them.

• 160 -175
  15x Explosive Sheep - 30 Heavy Blasting Powder, 15 Whirring Bronze Gizmo, 15 Bronze Framework, 30 Wool Cloth

  Keep 5 of these, you might need it if you choose Goblin Engineering at 200.

• 175 -176
  1x Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor - 4 Steel Bar

  Keep this, you will need it to craft some of the Engineering recipes.

• 176 - 195
  60x Solid Blasting Powder - 120 Solid Stone

  Save these because you will need them later.

• 195 - 200
  7x Mithril Tube - 21 Mithril Bar

  Stop making these when you reach 200. Keep 6 Mithril Tubes, because you might need them if you choose Gnomish Engineering at 200.

Artisan Engineering

Visit your trainer and learn Artisan Engineering. (Requires level 35)

Engineering has the option at skill level 200 to specialize in Gnomish Engineer or Goblin Engineer. Some items require a specific specialization, while others are crafted by one specialization but are usable by any engineer. Fortunately, most recipes crafted by one Specialization can be worn by both.

Choosing a specialization is not required to level up in engineering, so you can return to this later if you don't want to bother with the quest right now.

Engineering Specializations in Cataclysm Classic

200 - 300

• 200 - 215
  20x Unstable Trigger - 20 Mithril Bar, 20 Mageweave Cloth, 20 Solid Blasting Powder

  Save these.

• 215 - 238
  40x Mithril Casing - 120 Mithril Bar

  Save these.

• 238 - 250
  20x Hi-Explosive Bomb - 40 Mithril Casings, 20 Unstable Trigger, 40 Solid Blasting Powder

• 250 - 260
  30x Dense Blasting Powder - 60 Dense Stone

  You might need to make more than 30 to reach 260.

• 260 - 285
  35x Thorium Widget - 105 Thorium Bar, 35 Runecloth

  It will be yellow for the last few points so you might have to make a few more to reach 285.

• 285 - 300
  17x Thorium Tube - 102x Thorium Bar

  This will be yellow for 5 points, so you might have to make more.

Master Engineering

Visit your trainer and learn Master Engineering. (Requires level 50)

300 - 320

You will use these later, so make them now for free skill points.

• 40x Handful of Fel Iron Bolts - 40x Fel Iron Bar
• 10x Elemental Blasting Powder (4) - 10x Mote of Fire, 20x Mote of Earth
• 10x Fel Iron Casing - 30x Fel Iron Bar

Crafting one Elemental Blasting Powder creates 4 powders, so you will end up with 40 in total.

You might have to make a few more Fel Iron Bomb in the next step if you don't reach 320.

320 - 325

10x Fel Iron Bomb - 10x Fel Iron Casing, 20x Handful of Fel Iron Bolts, 10x Elemental Blasting Powder

You might need to make moreof these if you are unlucky with the skill point gains.

325 - 335

10x Adamantite Grenade - 40x Adamantite Bar, 20x Handful of Fel Iron Bolts, 10x Elemental Blasting Powder

Stop making these if you got lucky with the skill gains and reach 335. The next recipe is much cheaper.

335 - 350

40x White Smoke Flare - 40x Elemental Blasting Powder, 40x Netherweave Cloth

This will be green for the most part, so this is just an approximate number.

The Schematic: White Smoke Flare recipe is sold by these vendors:

• Wind Trader Lathrai in Shattrath City
• Captured Gnome in Zangarmarsh
• Feera in Exodar
• Yatheon in Silvermoon City

It's a limited supply item, so if someone bought it before you, you must wait for it to respawn, or you can check the other vendors. (around 7-10 min respawn timer)

Grand Master Engineering

Visit your trainer and learn Grand Master Engineering. (Requires level 65)

350 - 375

You will need around 50x Handful of Cobalt Bolts and 24x Volatile Blasting Trigger later. Make these now, and you should reach 375 or probably more. Make sure that you make theHandful of Cobalt Bolts before makingVolatile Blasting Trigger. (Volatile Blasting Trigger stay yellow longer, so it's better to make them later)

Note that when you craft Handful of Cobalt Bolts you can get 1 or 3 bolts, and the same goes for Volatile Blasting Trigger, you will get 2 for each craft.

• 35x Handful of Cobalt Bolts - 70 Cobalt Bar
• 14x Volatile Blasting Trigger - 42 Cobalt Bar, 14 Crystallized Water

Save both of these.

375 - 435

• 375 - 385
  10x Overcharged Capacitor - 40 Cobalt Bar, 10 Crystallized Earth

  Save these too. You will need them.

• 385 - 390
  7x Explosive Decoy - 7 Frostweave Cloth, 21 Volatile Blasting Trigger

  You might have to make a few more from this.

• 390 - 400
  15x Froststeel Tube - 120 Cobalt Bar, 15 Crystallized Water

  Save these too. You will need them later.

• 400 - 405
  5x Diamond-cut Refractor Scope - 5 Froststeel Tube, 10 Handful of Cobalt Bolts

  The recipe will be yellow so you might have to make a few more.

• 405 - 410
  5x Box of Bombs - 25 Saronite Bar, 5 Volatile Blasting Trigger

• 410 - 415
  5x Goblin Beam Welder - 30 Saronite Bar, 15 Crystallized Fire, 15 Crystallized Water

• 415 - 420
  If you were lucky with the skill gains previously you might have already reached 420 at this point, then skip making these and jump to the 420 part.

  5x Mana Injector Kit - 60 Saronite Bar, 10 Crystallized Water

  Stop making these when you reach 420.

• 420 - 425
  5x Noise Machine - 10 Froststeel Tube, 10 Overcharged Capacitor, 40 Handful of Cobalt Bolts

Cataclysm Classic Engineering

Visit your trainer and learn the new Cataclysm Classic Engineering skill. (Requires level 75)

425 - 525

• 425 - 442
  25x 2-4 Handful of Obsidium Bolts - 50x Obsidium Bar

  Save these. You might need to make more of these later on.

• 442 - 445
  1x Electrostatic Condenser - 4x Obsidium Bar, 6x Handful of Obsidium Bolts, 4x Volatile Earth

• 445 - 460
  15x Electrified Ether - 30x Volatile Air

  Keep these.

• 460 - 470
  Make two from one of these:

  2x R19 Threatfinder - 12x Obsidium Bars 4x Alicite, 12x Handful of Obsidium Bolts
  2x Safety Catch Removal Kit - 20x Obsidium Bar, 20x Handful of Obsidium Bolts

• 470 - 475
  1x High-Powered Bolt Gun - 10x Obsidium Bar, 8x Handful of Obsidium Bolts, 4x Electrified Ether

  Keep this because it is a required tool for creating other Engineering items.

  3x Lure Master Tackle Box - 60x Elementium Bar, 12x Handful of Obsidium Bolts

  If you picked Goblin Engineering specialization, make these instead:

  1x Elementium Dragonling - 2x Handful of Obsidium Bolts, 8x Electrified Ether, 16x Elementium Bar, 20x Embersilk Cloth
  5x Big Daddy - 5x Electrified Ether, 30x Elementium Bar

• 505 - 510
  1x Finely-Tuned Throat Needler - 2x Electrified Ether, 4x Obsidium Bar, 5x Hardened Elementium Bar

• 510 - 517
  10x Heat-Treated Spinning Lure - 10x Handful of Obsidium Bolts, 40x Elementium Bar, 10x Volatile Fire

  You might need to make more of these because the recipe will be yellow.
