I looked this up and their are mixed responses and i tried overriding the rune on my sword but no dice, can you even change the rune on sword?

You're supposed to be able to overwrite the rune by applying a different type of rune. If this no longer works then you're out of luck. You can never remove it entirely.

I've been able to override the runes on weapons in the past. That said I think the rune table is down at the moment so you'll have to wait until it is back up.
