There will be two tournaments happening this weekend with many top teams from the Midwest in attendance. Our PGH “Midwest Extravaganza” in Elgin, Illinois will feature elite squads from Illinois. The Grassroots “Memorial Day Shootout” in Jackson, Michigan is set to host many top Michigan clubs. There are a few prospects/clubs attending the MDS this weekend that I am eager to see live and these are just a few of the athletes I am excited to cover!

State: Michigan

Aaliyah Frost Aaliyah Frost 5'5" | CG Ferndale | 2027 State MI Michigan Crossover 2027-EYBL first caught my attention during the LBI HS Showcase in a varsity game against Dexter because of her outstanding on ball defense and dynamic ball handling. I saw her use excellent vision and ball vision at the Battle in the Mitten earlier this spring, while showing deep 3 point range. I am very excited to see her compete in person again at the Memorial Day Shootout.

Club: Michigan Crossover EYBL
The first time I saw Rihanna Young Rihanna Young 5'7" | CG Detroit Edison | 2027 State MI play was at Detroit Mercy Elite Camp last summer as she dominated the older group of girls with her full bag of ball-handling attack dribbles and range to drain 3’s off the dribble. She used her athleticism to dominate defensively at our Freshman Showcase last fall to be a top performer, and displayed excellent vision/passing at Battle in the Mitten. I’m excited for her to step up for Edison this winter and look forward to watching her this weekend.

CLASS 2027
State: Michigan
School: Detroit Edison Public Academy
Nichole James Nichole James 6'2" | PF Detroit Edison Public Academy | 2027 State MI Michigan Crossoer 2027-EYBL is an imposing power in the paint on both ends and she has that edge I would want as a coach from my top post player. Her height, shot-blocking and rebounding intensity, mixed with her powerful finishing off two at our Freshman Showcase and every time I’ve watched her in action, make her a top 2027 PF in Michigan. I’m eager to see her battle inside against other top forwards from Indiana and Michigan this weekend.
Olivia Griswold
HEIGHT 6'1"
POS PF
CLASS 2027
Olivia Griswold
School: Portage Central
Club: M6BA
Olivia Griswold (2027) is an intriguing PF/C prospect for M6BA-2025 that I am excited to see more of courtside this weekend. She is a shot blocker with a nose for the ball who has also demonstrated the ability to anticipate passes and dribble past defenders to score inside.
POS SG
CLASS 2027
State: Michigan
School: Grass Lake
Reese Lape Reese Lape SG Grass Lake | 2027 MI is an athletic, aggressive, and versatile prospect for Mystics South-2027 who really hit her stride early in the travel season. Seeing her handle the ball, attack downhill, block shots, and battle for boards earlier this spring; she is definitely going to be a guard at 5-9 who stands out this weekend.
Highlights
Sydney Hartke
HEIGHT 5'11"
POS SF
CLASS 2027
Sydney Hartke
School: Novi
Club: Always 100 Michigan Anarchy
Sydney Hartke Always 100 Michigan Anarchy -2027 is a wing who greatly impressed me at practice last month. She has length and ability to score at all three levels with the determination and work ethic every coach wants to have. I am very excited to watch her compete this weekend with her team.
Abby Brannon
HEIGHT 5'7"
POS SG
CLASS 2027
Abby Brannon
School: Williamston
Club: Drive Express-E40
Abby Brannon is a guard who I really liked for Michigan Drive Express 2025-E40 earlier this spring. She plays up and can knock down 3’s, rebound in the paint, and finish hard drives to the rim. I’m excited to see her compete again this weekend.
