GREENVILLE — The man who authorities saidstabbed a police dog during an arrest attempt off Wade Hampton Boulevard is facing additional charges.
James Edgar Hopkins IV, 51, faces charges of aggravated breach of peace, cruelty to a police dog and resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, according to a State Law Enforcement Division news release.
Hopkins allegedly stabbed a Greenville County Sheriff's Office police dog with a butcher-style knife May 13 and fled toward a nearby bank, according to arrest warrants.

Greenville sheriff's deputies and Department of Homeland Security agents were attempting to arrest Hopkins on heroin and meth trafficking warrants after he missed his court date, court filings show.
When authorities found Hopkins outside a hotel on Wade Hampton Boulevard, near Pine Knoll Drive, they saw he was armed with the knife, according to the news release.

Deputies shoot suspect after police dog stabbed during arrest in Greenville County

Authorities fired Tasers and a bean bag gun at Hopkins, which did not deter him, then deployed a sheriff's office police dog.
After Hopkins allegedly stabbed the dog and began to run toward the bank across the street, three deputies fired at him, shooting him at least once, a news release at the time said.
Hopkins was transported to the hospital. The police dog, Micky, was taken to an animal hospital and recovered after emergency surgery, the sheriff's office posted on Facebook.

No deputies were injured.
The sheriff's office is expected to release its curated community briefing video with body camera footage on June 27.
The shooting was the second deputy-involved shooting this year for the sheriff's office. In recent years, the department has led the state in officer-involved shootings, according to a Post and Courier database.
