Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (2024)

Welcome to the Starfield Achievement Guide!Starfield takes the core gameplay mechanics of Fallout and Elder Scrolls and applies them to a new game set in space. If you played previous Bethesda Gamesit will feel familiar. What does the game consist of?: Main Story, Faction Missions, Miscellaneous Missions (Side Quests), Activities (quick 1-step tasks), Romancing Companions,7Cities/Settlements (New Atlantis, Cydonia, Akila, Neon, New Homestead, Hopetown, Paradiso), Exploration (visit Solar Systems, Scan Planets and their local Flora/Fauna), building Outposts on Planets for resource extraction, Spaceship Fights, Crafting Food / Materials / Meds / Mods, Looting, and Shooting. The planet landing sites, and artifact locations for story purposes are procedurally generated and different for every player on every playthrough. There is a lot to do and you need a bit of everything. What you will have to complete fully is the Main Story and the Faction Questlines to get all mission-specific achievements. Everything else comes somewhat naturally along the way. In what particular order you approach things is largely up to you, the Roadmap provides the most efficient way but you can already work on side content during the story.

During this step, focus primarily on finishing the story, building a positive relationship with one Companion, and making a save before the Ending. It doesn’t matter what starting class, traits, and difficulty you pick. You don’t have to worry about Factions yet, they can still be joined when reaching the Ending.

After the story reload your Ending Save. If you forgot to make a Manual Save, reload the oldestAutosave.

Now finish all 4 Faction Questlines. Each of them gives 3 achievements (1 for joining, 2 mission-specific for completing their questlines). You can be in all Factions simultaneously in the same playthrough, they don’t cancel out each other. They are all still available at the end. Refer to their achievements below on how to join them:

During this step you will automatically get the achievement for 30 Terminal/Misc. Missions because Faction Quests count for it too. You should also get the 30 Activities done, many are just talking to your Companion. You will also get lots of money fromquest rewards, try to save all of it to buy 10 Spaceships later.

If you haven’t already maxed out a Companion Relationship keep working on it until you get married (keep getting Likes, do Companion Quests when they offer them, pick the Flirt/Romance/Commitment dialogues).

Take care of all remaining achievements. Most of them have to do with building Outposts, crafting Items, collecting materials, 20 Skill Magazines, collect 10 Spaceships, 10 Crewmates, smuggling Contraband, get 20 Quantum Essence, visit all Star Systems.

Most of these can be tracked via the in-game stats: Open Menu(Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (1) / Tab ) > Status ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (2) / B ) > select Category.

After you are done with all other achievements you will likely be in the range of Level 40. This means you have most of the leveling left to do. It takes a total of 479,326 XP from Level 1 to Level 100 (for reference: from Level 40 to Level 100 you need 410,570 XP). The XP requirement per level-up increases by about +100XP per level.

Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (28)Home Sweet Home
Build an Outpost10 GStarfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (29)

To build an outpost, free roam on a planet and open the Scanner ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (30) / F ), walk around until the “Outpost” prompt at the bottom of the screen turns from gray to white, then you can pressStarfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (31) / R to place an Outpost:

This only works in certain areas, not everywhere. You will usually need to walk away from the landing site for a couple hundred meters/yards until a suitable outpost location is available. Placing the outpost is enough for this achievement, no need to build anything else.

Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (33)Shipping Magnate
Connect 5 Outposts with Cargo Links10 GStarfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (34)
This is one of the more complex achievements in the game. It will require a lot of resources, it’s best you make a Manual Save before starting with this. If anything goes wrong you can always reload and redo it.
  1. Build6 outposts on the same planet close toeach other, seeHome Sweet Home.
  2. Fast travel to each Outpost, open the building Menu (use Scanner with Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (35) / F > press Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (36) / R) > Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (37) / Z to switch to “Miscellaneous” category > pick “Cargo Link”. It costs 2 Beryllium + 12 Aluminium + 20 Iron + 2 Zero Wire. This is available from the beginning, it doesn’t require any skills or research projects.
  3. Pick an empty spot and press Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (38) / E to build the Cargo Link. Do this in all 6 Outposts, each must have one Cargo Link. In total this will cost 12 Beryllium + 72 Aluminium + 120 Iron + 12 Zero Wire.
  4. Climb up the Cargo Link, there is a terminal on it. Interact with the terminal and click which Outpost to link it to. When done correctly it will show a green “link” icon.
  5. Link whichever Outposts it shows, e.g. Outpost 1 + Outpost 2/ Outpost 3 + Outpost 4 / Outpost 5 + Outpost 6. After linking 3 pairs of Outposts the achievement will unlock because you now have 5+ individual Outposts that each have a link to another. To clarify, you don’t interlink 5 Outposts in the same network, you always link separate pairs of 2 together.

Note that you will need 6 Outposts (not 5 as the achievement suggests) because they can only be linked in pairs. If you build only 5 outposts, your 5th Outpost won’t have a free Outpost to link with since 1+2 & 3+4 are already taken. So you need a 6th Outpost to link 5 + 6. Sometimes the game is a bit weird and doesn’t show all available Outposts for linking, if this happens keep building more Outposts nearby until you reach the limit and recheck what can be linked.

If you need to remove Outposts see How to Remove Outposts.

You don’t need to buy any specific skills for this (“Outpost Management” social skill is NOT required). No research projects are needed, everything you need is available from the start of the game. The Outposts can be completely empty, they don’t need any other buildings, just1 Cargo Link each. They don’t need to trade any outgoing/incoming Resources.

To get enough Resources (12 Beryllium + 72 Aluminium + 120 Iron + 12 Zero Wire) simply buy them from merchants.Go to System: Alpha Centauri > Planet: Jemison > Landing Site: New Atlantis > from the landing pad walk straight ahead until you reach the open area with the train station, turn left and enter the shop “Jemison Mercantile” > talk to the lady inside. Buythese, sleep in yourbed (lodge or ship) for 48 hours straight, visit the merchant again and they willhave restocked all resources, repeat until you haveenough. When you run out of inventory space dump all your other gear on the shipand companion.

You can track this under Menu (Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (42) / Tab ) > Status ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (43) / B ) >Crafting > Cargo Links Established.

Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (44)Industrialist
Produce 500 Total Resources from Outposts20 GFor this you have to mine 500 units of chemical elements via Extractors at Outposts (anything that goes in the “Resources” Inventory category).
  1. Build an outpost, seeHome Sweet Home.
  2. Open the Building Menu > Extractors > build a resource Extractor over a Resource Vein (where the ground is highlighted in different color).
  3. Build a power source to use the Extractor. In Building Menu: Power > Solar Array / Wind Turbine (make sure it outputs at least 5 PwR total to power the Extractor, power output/usage is displayed in bottom right of the screen)
  4. Build aStorage Device. From Building Menu: Storage > Storage – Solid / Liquid / Gas (depending on the resource type your are mining).
  5. Switch to “Modify” View by pressing Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (45) / Tab
  6. Scroll over the Extractor and press Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (46) / Right Click to make a red line appear > drag the red line from Resource Extractor to the Storage and press Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (47) / E to connect the two.

Now the Storage Container will slowly fill up. Each container can hold around 124resources total. You can speed up the process by sleeping in the bed on your ship, just fast forward time. To make it even faster, build5 Extractors and 5 Storage Containers, connect each Extractor to a Container, sleep for 24 hours a few times in a row until the achievement unlocks. You DON’T have to empty the containers and collect the materials. It mines them automatically in the background, as soon as 500 total were mined the achievement unlocks, even if you are on a completely different planet doing other tasks. However, if the Containers fill up it will eventually stop producing Resources so you either need to empty the Containers or build 5 of them.

The fastest way to get the resources to build the Extractors/Power/Storage Containers is to buy them from merchants. For example in System: Alpha Centauri > Planet: Jemison > Landing Site: New Atlantis > from the landing pad walk straight ahead until you reach the open area with the train station, turn left and enter the shop “Jemison Mercantile” > talk to the lady inside. Buy all resources you need, sleep in yourbed (lodge or ship) for 48 hours straight, then visit the merchant again and they willhave restocked all resources, repeat until you have what you need.

Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (48)Chief Engineer
Modify a Ship10 GGo to Star System: Alpha Centauri> Planet: Jemison > Landing Site: New Atlantis.

From the landing pad go straight ahead and you will find a man called “Ship Service Technician”, standing next to the Trade Authority Kiosk (vending machine). Talk to him and pick dialogue “I’d like to view and modify my ship”. Now click on any category of your ship and switch out any part, doesn’t matter which one. You can go for the cheapest. Then quit out and choose to pay for the part to install it, then the achievement will unlock. If you don’t want to waste money you can make a save beforehand and reload it to get the money back.

Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (51)Stellar Cartography
Visit 20 Star Systems10 GSeeThe Stars My Destinationfor visiting all Star Systems.Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (52)The Stars My Destination
Visit all Star Systems20 GYou can tell which Star Systems you’ve already visited if they show a “Survey %” in the top left corner when you scroll over them on the Starmap:

If they don’t show the Survey % it means you’ve not visited the Star System before. This way you can easily keep track of what you still need.

28 Lightyears Jump Distance is the most you need to visit all Star Systems. The more Lightyears two stars are apart, the better stats your Gravdrive needs to cover the distance. The Jump Distance of your ship can be seen in the Ship Menu. PressStarfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (54) / Tab > in bottom left click the ship > on left side it will show “Jump LY” (LY stands for Lightyears distance).

You can increase the Jump Distanceby buying a new ship, installing a stronger generator, or buying the “Astrodynamics” skills from the science skill tree. Your starting ship won’t be good enough to reach everywhere. Most ships that have a base stat of 25 Lightyears can be upgraded to 28 Lightyears by installing a stronger Gravdrive and Reactor. Or simply buy a ship that starts with 30 Lightyears and you’ll be good to go. Although keep in mind some Star Systems will have immediate enemy encounters so it’s also important to have good weapons and shields. Or you can try to quickly jump to the next Star to evade the enemies. Playing on the lowest difficulty and buying the Tech skills for better Shields/Damage will help ifyou get into spacefights with high-level enemies.

Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (56)Boots on the Ground
Land on 100 Planets20 GTo land on a planet, select it from the starmap, pressStarfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (57) / X to fast travel to it > Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (58) / R to scan it > either select a marked landing site or hold Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (59) / right-click to land wherever you want. You can’t land on gas planets, water, or extreme weather conditions.

You can track this under Menu (Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (60) / Tab ) > Status ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (61) / B ) >Exploration > Planets Landed On. As part of the Main Story & 4 Faction Questlines you will automatically land on about 40-50 Planets.

Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (62)Fixer
Complete 30 Activities30 G“Activities” are a type of mission in the quest log.You can track them under Menu (Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (63) / Tab ) >Missions> Activity. They are very short one-step quests, usually for talking to a person that then gives a new quest, or for tutorial tasks like crafting an item for the first time. Each time a companion wants to talk to you it also counts as an “activity”.

The best approach is to just do the story and the 4 Faction Questlines and talk to your companion whenever they say they want to talk. You should completely more than 30 activities automatically from this. If you still don’t have the achievement after this, simply track the remaining activities from the Mission Menu, they will gradually unlock as you advance through the game and go near certain people for the first time.

You can track how many you completed under Menu (Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (64) / Tab ) > Status ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (65) / B ) > Mission > Activities Completed. Personally, I got33 automatically from story and the 4 Faction Questlines.

Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (66)Privateer
Complete 30 Terminal or Misc. Missions10 GThis achievement description is slightly misleading. It also counts “Faction Missions” towards this. Simply do all Faction Missions for the other mission-related achievements and you’ll automatically get this in the process.

In addition to Faction Missions,“Misc Missions” are a shorter side quests usually given by NPCs. You can track them under Menu ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (67) / Tab ) > Missions > Misc. The “Power from Beyond” questline also counts, whichis automatically started during the story and has you going to different temples to unlock their powers.

“Terminal Missions” are infinitely repeatable bounty hunts. They are started from Mission Terminals in the populated main cities, often in pubs. For example, one Terminal is in Star System: Cheyenne > Planet: Akila > Landing Site: Akila City > inside the Freestar Collective pub. You will have to do a Terminal Mission as part ofjoining the Freestar Collective. Then you can keep accepting new missions from the Terminal. But these missions can be ignoredsince you do 30+ Faction Quests automatically for their achievements.

You can track how many you completed under Menu (Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (68) / Tab ) > Status ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (69) / B ) > Mission > Side Quests completed. Personally, I got51 automatically from story and the 4 Faction Questlines.

Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (70)Life Begets Life
Gather 500 Organic Resources20 G“Organic Resources” are anythinggatheredfrom plants and from creatures. The fastest way is to run around planets with the scanner open ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (71) / F ), look for highlighted plants and loot them.

You can track this under Menu (Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (72) / Tab ) > Status ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (73) / B ) >Crafting >Organic Resources Gathered.

Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (74)Rock Collection
Gather 500 Inorganic Resources10 G“InorganicResources” are any chemical elements gathered from shooting the Cutter at them until they break (laser mining tool). The fastest way is to run around planets with the scanner open ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (75) / F ), look for highlightedchemical compounds andbreak them with the Cutter.

You get a Cutter automatically at the start of the game but if you sold it can always buy a new one from merchants, for example in System: Alpha Centauri > Planet: Jemison > Landing Site: New Atlantis > from the landing pad walk straight ahead until you reach the open area with the train station, turn left and enter the shop “Jemison Mercantile” > talk to the merchant inside.

You can track this under Menu (Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (76) / Tab ) > Status ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (77) / B ) >Crafting> Inorganic Resources Gathered.

Bypass 50 Digital Locks30 G“Digital Locks” are Starfield’s form of lockpicking. You will often find locked doors, containers and safes. Picking these digital locks requires two things: a “Digipick” (can be bought from shops and often found near locked doors), and the “Security” Skill (purple Tech skill tree).

There are different levels of locks: Advanced > Expert > Master. Each requires a higher level of the “Security” skill. To upgrade this you must pick more locks and invest one skill point. Make it a priority to buy this skill as early as possible, ideally even make it a starting skill. It’s extremely useful to get into locked places. Whenever you see a lock, open it until you have this achievement.

If you don’t have this by the time you are done with the story and the 4 Faction Questlines, then free roam in the populated cities, they usually have a bunch of locks.

You can track this under Menu (Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (79) / Tab ) > Status ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (80) / B ) > Crime > Locks Picked. Personally, I got37 automatically from story and the 4 Faction Questlines.

Access 50 Computers20 GComputers are terminals that you can interact with. They can usually be found in enemy bases and in the populatedareas.

The best approach is to finish the story and 4 Faction Questlines first. You will automatically have to use lots of computers in quest objectives. Along the way, keep a look out for optional computers and interact with any you come acrossIf you don’t have 50 after you’re done with achievement-related quests then just keep exploring in the cities and at landing sites, most of the repeated open world areas with enemies will have a couple for activating robots.

Unlike most other achievements, there is no in-game stat to trackhow many you got.

Mod 50 Weapons30 GWeapons can be modded at Weapon Workbenches. One can be found in the basem*nt of the Lodge, your base of operations where you meet the Constellation faction (System: Alpha Centauri > Planet: Jemison > Landing Site:The Lodge). At the start of the building turn right and go downstairs to the basem*nt, turn right to see the Weapon Workbench.

At the workbench select a weapon and click “Modify”.

To modify parts you need two things: 1) The necessary materials (quickest way is to buy themfrom merchants, slower way is to mine them from planets),2) and the necessary research level. You must interact with a Research Lab (in same basem*nt of the Lodge as the Workbench), click the Weaponry category and research the different categories. The research will cost resources too. The more categories you research the more freedom you have with the choice of mods.

You can track this under Menu (Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (86) / Tab ) > Status ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (87) / B ) >Crafting> Weapon Mods Crafted / Armor Mods Crafted.

Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (88)Replicator
Craft 100 Items30 GFor this you must craft 100 Items at the Industrial Workbench & Pharmaceutical Lab.These can be found in the basem*nt of the Lodge, your base of operations where you meet the Constellation faction (System: Alpha Centauri > Planet: Jemison > Landing Site:The Lodge). At the start of the building turn right and go downstairs to the basem*nt, there you find workbenches of all types.

The quickest method is to buy the required resources from merchants, they restock their inventory after you sleep for 48 hours.Go toSystem: Alpha Centauri > Planet: Jemison > Landing Site: New Atlantis > from the landing pad walk straight ahead until you reach the open area with the train station, turn left and enter the shop “Jemison Mercantile” > talk to the merchant inside. Buy all Resources you need for cheap items, craft them in lodge, sleep 48h for merchant to restock, repeat. Resources are fairly cheap andthe merchant has a lot of them, so this shouldn’t take long at all.

How many items you crafted at the Industrial Workbench cannot be tracked. But you can track Pharmaceuticals under Menu (Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (89) / Tab ) > Status ( Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (90) / B ) >Crafting>Chems Crafted.

Recruit 10 Separate Companions20 GStarfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (92)

7Companions are recruitable during main story quests (you meet them all automatically): Andreja, Barrett, Heller, Lin, Sam Coe, Sarah Morgan, Vasco.

Morecompanions can be recruited in certain bars/diners/pubs. Go toSystem: Alpha Centauri > Planet: Jemison > Landing Site: New Atlantis > from the landing pad walk straight ahead until you reach the open area with the train station, turn left and enter the shop “The Viewport” > talk to thepeople inside.

Most of the people there can be recruited formoney, usually in the range of 6,500-18,000 credits per person. In the early game this may seem expensive, but you get upward of 1 Million credits automatically from Main Story and the 4 Faction Questlines. You can always make quick money by selling loot to merchants, sleep in bed for 48 hours (ship or lodge) to refresh their money and sell them more stuff.

After recruiting someone, you will be asked to assign them to a place. Just assign each person to your ship and when it’s full assign the next person until the achievement pops. I had to recruit a total of 12 people before the achievement popped (I had 6from story, 6 from The Viewport bar). So if it doesn’t unlock at 10 just recruit a few more or assign them to different places. You can make Quicksave beforehand and reload it afterward to get the money back.

Reach Maximum Relationship Level with a Companion20 G*MISSABLE*

»Starfield – Sarah Morgan Romance Guide
»Starfield – Andreja Romance Guide

There are4 Main Companions in the game: Sarah Morgan, Sam Coe, Andreja, Barrett (100% confirmed to work for this achievement are Andreja and Sarah, Sam and Barrett still need confirmation). You meet all4 of them automatically in the Main Story. They are part of The Constellation Faction.

The gender of your own character doesn’t matter for this, the Companions do not care what gender you are (can changegender any time in “Enhance” shops around major cities anyway).

It is very important that you keep traveling with the same companion for the entire game. Decide on one and stay with that person, don’t constantly switch companions unless the story forces it. It takes a very long time, around 40 hours of gameplay to max out onerelationship. To put it in perspective: for achievements you must finish the main story and 4 factions. I only maxed out my first relationship after having finished the story and 3 of 4 faction questlines.

It is also important that you always get “Likes” from that person. During dialogue choices you will sometimes see your companion giving a “Like” or “Dislike”, this is displayed in the top right corner. Make Quicksaves regularly before talking to people. If your companion gives a dislike, reload the save and repeat the conversation. There is almost always a choice that gives either a Like or Neutral response.

If you get a few Dislikes you can still make up for it by continuing to get likes. But after you finished the Main Story & 4 Faction Questlines there aren’t too many big conversations left to gain likes from your companion. If you get as many Dislikes as you get Likes, you could run into a situation where you have done practically everything for achievements and still haven’t maxed out a relationship. The Dislikes undo any progress you made. That’s why this is missable, but still doable in New Game+ (however relationships reset to zero in NG+ so would need to redo everything).

Sarah and Sam like when you agree with them and pick the “nice” options. Andreja likes it when youpick thesassy options and show strength. They all hate when you sell out for money or start unnecessary bloodshed. So attempt to solve situations peacefully as far as possible. However, it doesn’t matter how the 4 Faction Questlines play out. After each Faction questlines your companions will want to talk and give some feedback on your choices. Even if they disagree with your choices, there’s always a dialogue choice to avoid getting a Dislike if you agree that you made a mistake or didn’t consider the consequences.

Regularly talk to your companion whenever they want to talk. They will call out when they want to talk, you can always score some likes from that.

Whenever possible, pick the [FLIRT] option with your companion.

After you improved the relationship enough you will get a “Friendship” mission. This is a quest given by the companion directly after talking to them. It can then be tracked from the mission log. At the end of their mission choose the [ROMANCE] option. After a while your companion wants to talk again and you can make a marriage proposal by choosing the [COMMITMENT] option. The companion will automatically accept this. Then wait a while until the Companion wants to talk again to plan the wedding. Then after a while they want to talk again and give you their Wedding Quest. Complete the Wedding and the achievement will unlock!

If your Companion goes missing, open the Menu (Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (95) / Tab) > click the Ship Menu in bottom left > open the Crew Menu (displayed in bottom right) > this will show where your Companion is and you can assign them to another place if they don’t spawn. If they are in the Lodge they might be in their room or wandering around. If a story quest forces playing with another Companion that’s fine, just remember to talk to your main Companion afterward and ask them to travel with you again.

To sum up:

  1. Keep traveling with the same companion, get Likes and keep talking to the companion whenever they want.
  2. They will give their 1st Quest after a talk. Be nice duringtheir quest and choose the [FLIRT] / [ROMANCE] options. This will make them your girlfriend/boyfriend at the end of the quest.
  3. Keep traveling together, when the companion wants to talk choose [COMMITMENT] to get engaged.
  4. Keep traveling together until they give their 2nd quest toget married(can take a few hours to get this).Getting married completes the relationship and unlocks the achievement.

Note that you can still end the relationship and get divorced at any time to start a relationship with another companion. To do this simply talk to the companion after getting married, choose to discuss the relationship, and choose to end it. There are no “Romance Cutscenes” when you get married. The only difference is that the companion will wake up next to you when you rest in a bed, and they will make cheerful comments when they see you.

Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (96)War of Angels
Collect 20 Quantum Essence20 G“Quantum Essence” is a unique resource dropped by “Starborn” and “Guardian” enemies. They are the powerful astronauts that teleport into some places and use stealth tech to become invisible. You only encounter them later in thestory. Upon defeating these enemy types, it will show a popup in the top right corner “You have Gained 1 Quantum Essence”. This happens automatically, you don’t need to manually pick it up, can’t miss it:

“Starborn” are met multiple times during the story. They spawn at most of the artifacts that you collect from mines/caves later in the story. A lot of them spawn in “Main Mission 15: Unearthed” in the NASA base on earth.

“Guardians” spawn after each of the Temples from the “Power from Beyond” questline (automatically starts afterMain Mission 05:Into the Unknown). There are 26Temples total but 2 are story-related and don’t have a Guardian. The remaining 24 Temples each have 1 Guardian = 24 Quantum Essences total.

From the story alone you won’t reach 20. Personally, I got 12 Quantum Essence during the story. For the rest you will have to do the “Power from Beyond” questline to visit the temples and defeat their Guardians (they always spawn after you complete the temple).

You can keep track of how many Quantum Essences you have under Menu (Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (100) / Tab) > click “Powers” at the top (only appears after unlocking first story-related power) > in bottom left it shows how many Quantum Essences you got.

You need 20 cumulatively, not at the same time. So if you spend any Quantum Essence those will still count towards the achievement. You can use them in the “Powers” Menu, they temporarily improve your power regeneration speed, allowing you to spam powers very quickly. This way you can get past difficult encounters more easily.

Starfield Achievement Guide & Roadmap (103)Fleet Commander
Collect 10 Ships20 GFor this you must have collected 10 spaceships cumulatively, you don’t need to own 10 at the same time. If you sold any ships they still count towards the 10 even if you don’t own them anymore.

You will automatically unlock 3 Ships from the Story and 4 Faction Questlines: Frontier (starting ship from story), Star Eagle (reward for completing Freestar Collective questline), UC Prison Shuttle (unlocked during Crimson Fleet questline). You will likely also buy a 4th ship during the story because you need a minimum of 21 Lightyears Jump Distance for a story objective (which the other ships don’t have).

So after doing all quest-related achievements you should only need 6-7 ships. From the Story + 4 Faction Questlines you get around 1,000,000 Credits which is enough to buy another 6-7 ships if you go for the cheapest ones that cost around 100,000 each.

You can buy ships from Ship Service Merchants. They are found at the landing pads of all major cities. Talk to them and check what ships they have available.

The quickest and easiest option would be to finish Story + 4 Faction Questlines first. Create a Manual Save, then simply buyships until the achievement unlocks. Then you can reload the save to get your money back.

You can also sell your ships at Ship Service Technicians but they only give 20% of the original purchase price.Sold ships still count towards the 10 total so feel free to sell all of them to afford another ship.

If you run out of money, you can also steal ships for free and they all count towards the achievement even without registering them at a Technician. This requires a little more work, seeHow to Steal Spaceships.
